The Year That Changed My Life: Geetanjali’s Open Letter To ImpactGuru Donors

Dear all,

My name is Geetanjali Jain and I am here to share the story of how I survived Kidney Failure.

This letter is my way of thanking all the incredible people who saved my life – something that I see as nothing short of a miracle.

From grief and pain to hope for a new life

It all happened two years ago. With the demise of our little one, my husband and I were shattered. While we were grieving the loss of our daughter, another stroke of reality hit us, and I was diagnosed with Kidney Failure. When all I wanted was to be at home with my family, I had to stay in hospitals with faces that I had never seen before. Just in order to survive.

The journey of dialysis was a painful one. I spent week after week losing weight, losing my hair, and eventually any hope that I would make it out of this giant hole that my life had suddenly become. When the doctors said that I would need a kidney transplant, at first, I couldn’t understand what to feel. “Should I even allow myself to have hope?” asked my mind. Slowly, other questions crept up,

Who would be my donor?

Would I ever find a donor?

Would I make it?

Burying my daughter. Fighting the pandemic and the covid-19 diagnosis that was killing so many younger, healthier people. And then finally, kidney failure. Together, the cost of these seemed insurmountable – not just emotionally and physically but also financially.

But then I was reborn.

My mother was a donor match. She didn’t even hesitate once. All we needed now were funds and that’s when our guardian angel came in – ImpactGuru. Through it, we received help from people who had never even met us in person. These were all people who just read our story, saw us, saw our pain, and chose to help.

Their help and prayers made sure that the kidney transplant was a success.

A second chance at life

Today, my mom is healthy after the transplant and so am I.

Today, I can cook for my family, be with them and live a normal life again. This is all possible because of kind donors like you. If I could meet the entire ImpactGuru team, I would personally my gratitude with folded hands. I also want to help people the way you helped me. You have given me the strength to fight every day. I truly have received a second chance at life.

Thank you for saving my life.
