In a tragic case that has captured international attention, Canadian authorities are searching for the husband of Dona Sajan, a 29-year-old woman from Chalakudy, Kerala, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Oshawa, Canada. Dona’s family suspects that her husband, Lal K Poulose, may be hiding somewhere in Kerala.
The case began on May 7 when officers from the Central East division of the Durham Regional Police responded to a welfare check call at a residence near Rideau Street and Saguenay Avenue at around 7 AM. Upon entering the residence, police discovered Dona’s lifeless body. According to a media release from the Durham Regional Police dated May 16, a Canada-wide warrant for the arrest of Lal Kannampuzha Poulose, 31, was issued, charging him with first-degree murder. Investigators believe that Lal fled the country and might currently be in India.
Dona’s father, Sajan Francis, revealed that on May 7, Lal sent an alarming email to his son Deljo, who is also in Canada, stating that he and Dona were going to commit suicide. Deljo immediately alerted the police and rushed to their residence. An hour later, Deljo informed his family that the authorities had confirmed Dona’s death and that Lal was missing. It was only later that the family learned Dona had been murdered and that Lal had fled to India.
Sajan Francis suspects Lal is hiding in Kerala, as he has been active online. “It was Dona who was killed, but for us, it feels like all three of us have been murdered. We are not even getting justice. There is a limit to how much we can talk to Canadian police. The police here have not taken any action. We have provided some phone numbers that we suspect, and they told us that they would inquire. His net is on, he is talking to people, and we have told that too to the police here. He was active in our family social media groups till Friday when he exited. We believe that he is somewhere here only,” Francis added.
Sajan has complained to the state police chief and other senior officers but is frustrated with the lack of updates. He has been preoccupied with the process of repatriating Dona’s body, which arrived in Kerala only on Saturday.
The Kerala police are working to track down Lal K Poulose based on the information provided by the family. Authorities urge anyone with knowledge of Lal’s whereabouts to come forward and assist in the investigation to ensure justice for Dona Sajan.
