Raja’s victory from Leicester East was significant, as the constituency hadn’t seen a Tory elected in nearly four decades. She won the seat by beating Labour’s Rajesh Agrawal, the former deputy mayor of London by a margin of whopping 4,426 votes
Amid the dominant presence of Labour MPs in the UK Parliament, 29-year-old Tory leader Shivani Raja stepped into the spotlight, solemnly swearing her oath on the Bhagavad Gita as she took her seat in the House of Commons on Thursday.
In a post on X, Raja posted a video of the swearing-in ceremony.“It was an honour to be sworn into Parliament today to represent Leicester East”, she said in the post.“I was truly proud to swear my allegiance to His Majesty King Charles on the Gita”, she added.
